Building Leaders

Cy-Fair is a vibrant community that values education of tomorrow’s leaders. The Cypress Fairbanks Independent School District is the third largest in the state of Texas. In addition, there are many private schools, charter schools and community college opportunities within the Cy-Fair area, which is made up of more than 750,000 people.

With 85 campuses and 112,000 students, Cy-Fair ISD is passionate about providing quality education and is continually achieving state and national academic accolades. Last year, the district had 35 semifinalists and 103 commended students recognized in the 58th annual National Merit Scholarship Program.

More than 21,000 volunteers illustrate the strong community support found in the Cy-Fair area. Best of all, CFISD’s quality education comes at a low burden to area taxpayers, who can utilize a 20-percent Optional Local Homestead Exemption that is offered in only a handful of Houston-area districts. Property taxes fund public schools in the state of Texas. The tax rate per $100 value for tax year 2012 was $1.45.

Lone Star College-CyFair serves nearly 18,000 students in the Cy-Fair area, 90,000 throughout its six greater Houston area campuses, and remains focused on offering responsive workforce and transfer programs to enhance both economic development and quality of life in Cy-Fair. The college provides a wide range of academic choices, workforce certificates and associate degrees as well as university transfer and a variety of continuing education activities for a lifetime of learning. In addition, the Small Business Development Center offers free business management and consulting services and a variety of low-cost workshops and seminars. ExxonMobil employees transferring from Virginia will be offered in-state tuition fees at Lone Star College.

Private schools in Cypress and Jersey Village are an excellent alternative to public schools.  Smaller classes, extended hours, programs for pre-school, and a variety of teaching methods are some of the advantages for students who elect to attend private school.
